Wheelchair sports

Wheelchair sports already take place in The Milestone School gym. However, the development of the Chamwell Centre and external play areas will offer increased capacity for those wishing to take part. The facilities will also be available for children and adults from anywhere in Gloucestershire.

We are also planning to have a multi-use games area that we will share with Longlevens Rugby Football Club whose site is next door to Milestone. We already have pledges to support this development and this will bring together young people and adults of all abilities.

Wheelchair sports include:
  • Wheelchair rugby – a very active sport combining elements of ice hockey, handball and wheelchair basketball: specially adapted wheelchairs allow people with and without a spinal injury to take part and there are great benefits for rehabilitation for those who have experienced an amputation as they gain mobility and develop a sense of well-being and achievement through being part of a team
  • wheelchair basketball
  • wheelchair racing
  • weated throwing – athletics training for wheelchair users
