We believe that the Chamwell Centre will offer a warm and welcoming hub that will benefit people throughout Gloucestershire. Facilities will be available to ensure that anyone with disability will have access to high standard changing rooms and hoists with tracking to transfer into the hydrotherapy pool.
The community café will be a place where parents can meet informally around school run times giving them opportunities to benefit from peer support and shared experiences. Community groups for children and adults will be able to book sessions and we feel there will be integration in activities between disabled and non-disabled. This work has already begun with All Ability Athletics and RaceRunning clubs, and children with muscular dystrophy are already benefiting from using the current hydrotherapy pool at the weekend. Weekends, evenings and school holiday times will offer many more opportunities such as these.
The Changing Places facility at the Chamwell Centre will provide a much-needed extra resource for Gloucestershire and will offer many additional facilities available on site to disabled young people and adults. It will be of particular benefit for personal assistants providing short breaks for those who are disabled.
Changing Places toilets are different to standard accessible toilets (or ‘disabled toilets’) because they have extra features and more space to meet the needs of the people who use them.
